But what does it actually mean to be “eligible” for the vaccine?
Each province and territory have their own rules for when different groups of people can get the COVID-19 vaccine.
For example, imagine only healthcare workers in your province can get the COVID-19 vaccine right now. Once enough healthcare workers get the vaccine, your province lets people over the age of 80 get the vaccine. Once enough people over the age of 80 get the vaccine, your province lets people over the age of 75 get the vaccine - and so on. This process continues until most of the population has received the vaccine. Keep in mind this is just an example - eligibility in the province or territory you live in might be different.
What happens if I request the vaccine, but I’m not eligible right now?
If you’re not eligible to get the vaccine right now, you’ll be eligible later in the year. The rules for who’s eligible will change over time as more and more people get the vaccine.
When you request the COVID-19 vaccine, we’ll notify you if you’re eligible for the vaccine and doses and appointments are available, so you can book your COVID-19 vaccine appointment(s).
